The "Centre for Advanced Computational Technologies" (CACT) is one of the nodes of the SPACI (Southern Partnership for Advanced Computing Infrastructures) grid deployed in Southern Italy.
The Center for Advanced Computational Technologies is an advanced technological facility for the NNL (National Nanotechnology Laboratory) and University of Lecce, providing scientific and technological competences on parallel, distributed and grid computing.
The Center fosters the application of high-end computing in several scientific contexts (Engineering, Nanosciences, Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Chemistry, Biosciences, Geosciences, Cultural Heritage) and industrial areas, such as those concerned with cars, energy, space, chemistry, as well as the environment, the financial and economic field and the area of telecommunication and multimedia services.

The CACT has been conceived to:
  • Allow highly interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary ICT researches;
  • Promote the development of competences on high performance and grid computing and their application to scientific and industrial contexts with high computational needs;
  • Offer Research and Development opportunities to students attending the IT degree courses of the Faculty of Enginnering at the University of Lecce;
  • Provide scientific and technological support for applied researches carried out at the HPC Lab of the Innovation Engineering Dept. of the University of Lecce;
  • Provide scientific and technological support for applied researches carried out at the scientific campus of the University of Lecce;
  • Provide advanced Computing support for applied researches carried out at the National Nanotechnology Laboratory of the INFM/CNR located in the Lecce Technological District;
  • Offer advanced interdisciplinary pre-degree training to young people coming from the euro-Mediterranean area;
  • Provide advanced interdisciplinary training with international doctorates and educational periods of foreign professors and researchers;
  • Coordinate integrated research projects dealing with advanced computing and grid computing within the EU framework programs;
  • Foster the creation of R&D centers in highly strategic areas in collaboration with ICT companies;
  • Support the cooperation and high training both nationally and internationally;
